I Thought I'd Gotten Past This

Okay, so here I am, at the ripe old age of 42, and I'm going back to preschool . . . again.

With every child, I'm reminded of the harrowing days of school-dom, and all of the joy, wonder, and angst they bring. I have three children, Angelgirl, who is a high-school senior, preparing for college in the Fall (Boy! Don't I remember that crazymuddledwonderful time).

Juice, my older son, is a 15 year-old high school Freshman. I think we're clear on what that means.

And finally, Doodlebug, Bug for short, my soon-to-be four year-old "bigger boy," and the one responsible for my preschool redux. Although I've been down the preschool route before, this time, it's different - we are homeschooling.

Now, I'm not completely new to homeschooling. Juice and I have been at it since he entered the sixth grade. I remember spending the entire summer before that first homeschool year reviewing content standards, creating wonderful lesson plans, re-inventing the wheel, so on and so forth. On that first day, we both were a lotta bit nervous, but we made it through, somehow. We continued through middle school, but once we reached high school, Juice wanted to be able to participate in school activities. Sooo, he is still at home, but is enrolled in our district's virtual high school. Best of both worlds? Hmm, we'll see how it goes.

With Bug, I'm super-excited because we get to start from the ground-up. As a point of posterity, and not to brag, (okay, maybe to brag), as of this writing, he knows all of his letters, upper and lower case, can count to 100, and beyond, forwards and backwards, knows all of his shapes and colors, and has a fairly broad sight-word vocabulary. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but you get the idea. I just wanted to have a point of entry, so that when we look back fondly on this first post, and we will, we'll be able to see just how far we've come.

So, here we go, folks! Thanks for starting this journey with us. I'm sure it will be interesting, to say the least. And who knows? We all just might learn something along the way.
